BEIJING Olympian Mark Javier and precocious Marie Crizabelle Merto shot to the forefront of the POC-PSC National Games Saturday by capturing their fourth and fifth golds, respectively, at the Doña Monserrat High School grounds in Silay City.
On the penultimate day of the weeklong Olympic-style sports showcase, Javier, 29, and Merto, 16, continued their prolific performances by beating separate foes in the finals of the recurve 70-meter Olympic round competitions.
Both based in Dumaguete City, Javier whipped Paul dela Cruz, 6-2, while Merto subdued Stephanie Azaria, 6-4.
Javier, who saw action in last year’s Guangzhou Asian Games, boosted his golden haul to four after earlier securing the men’s senior recurve 70 and 50-meter titles, singel FITA, on top of a silver medal in 30 meters, where he lost by just one point to gold medalist Florante Matan, 346-347.
An incoming fourth-year Silliman University high school student, Merto, on the other hand, earlier won the women’s senior re-curve 70, 60, 50, 30-meter and single FITA championships.
