BACOLOD CITY – Archers Mark Javier and Marie Crizabelle Merto were the toast of the Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) National Games on Saturday for capturing more gold medals at the Dona Monserrat High School grounds in Silay City.
On the penultimate day of the Games, Javier, 29, and Merto, 16, continued their outstanding performances by defeating their respective foes in the finals of the recurve 70-meter Olympic round competitions.
Javier trashed Paul dela Cruz, 6-2, while Merto beat Stephanie Azaria, 6-4.
Javier, who also action in last year’s Guangzhou Asian Games, now has a total of 4 gold medals. He earlier secured the men’s senior recurve 70 and 50-meter titles and single FITA on top of a silver medal in 30 meters.
Merto, on the other hand, earlier won the women’s senior recurve 70, 60, 50 and 30-meters.
Both of them were still in the hunt for more gold medals as they were still competing in the team events as of posting time.
